What Kind of Music Do We Play?

We play great band arrangements of favorite popular songs, Broadway show tunes, marches,  polkas, jazz songbook standards, hymns, Christmas and patriotic music and more.

We perform mostly for audiences at senior care homes, and we want them to recognize and enjoy our music, and even sing along! Middle and high school band departments are always cleaning out their files of “obsolete” pieces that are perfect for us, so you could say we are a music recycling service.

Occasionally, we get together with a middle school band (pictured) to play a piece or two that both bands have been working on. A good multi-generational time is had by all!

You Can Do This!

Our band and the hundreds of New Horizons Band groups across the U.S. and abroad, are full of people who doubted whether they could ever learn to play an instrument. Yet they are doing it, and having a great time.

Some of the best things about it are the lack of pressure, the humor, the support from fellow members, the “family” that grows within a group.

Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Tuba, Percussion. What appeals to you?

You may already own an instrument and know what you want to play. If not, we can help you try a variety of instruments to find the one most suitable for you. Rental instruments are available from area music stores.

It's Never Too Late to Learn to Play an Instrument

We start beginners at any age, because we believe you are never too old to enjoy the many benefits of learning to play a musical instrument.

Aside from the obvious enjoyment of the music itself, there are lots of physical, mental and social rewards that come out of being part of the group. Remember that old phrase, “Use it or lose it”? Well, this is one place where you will definitely “use it”.

If you have an instrument you played in high school or college, and you want to continue, you will be amazed at how much you remember.

We offer like-instrument group lessons to everyone on a weekly basis. Lessons are scheduled for before and after the full band rehearsals. Anyone who would like more intensive, private instruction may arrange that with one of the instructors or find a lesson teacher outside of the program.

How Do I get Started?
What is the Cost?

Tri-County New Horizons Band has no age limits, except that members must be adults.

Because TCNHB is a club, we collect $50 dues when you join, to offset the cost of music and percussion equipment. At present there are no ongoing dues beyond the initial fee, because we have very few expenses. Instructors are volunteers, and the meeting spaces are currently provided at no charge.

Other costs incurred are a small deposit for your band vest, and any equipment or supplies you purchase or rent.
