TCNHB in concert

First, choose an instrument

Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Tuba, Percussion. What appeals to you?

Players may already own an instrument and know what they want to play. If not, we can help you try a variety of instruments to find the one most suitable for you. Rental instruments are available from area music stores.

Next...Lessons

We offer like-instrument group lessons to everyone on a weekly basis. Lessons are scheduled for before and after the full band rehearsals. Anyone who would like more intensive, private instruction may arrange that with one of the instructors or find a lesson teacher outside of the program.

All together, now...Rehearsals

The band currently has about 32 members, and rehearses together two afternoons each week for one hour.

Members also often arrange to arrive early and practice together on small ensemble music or the more difficult spots in the band pieces. Helping each other learn makes everyone a better player.

What kind of music are we talking about here?

We play a variety of music from jazzy to show tunes, from Mozart to polkas, to modern day concert band compositions. We try to make it a mix that is easy enough for the beginning players in the group, while challenging the more experienced members.

We are always keeping our audiences in mind, and play pieces they recognize and can sing along with.

Who do we perform for?

When we are ready to share, we go out into the community and entertain at senior living facilities, churches or wherever we are requested. We also have had great experiences playing alongside school band classes.

For the past several years, we have “opened” for the Port Washington City Band at its final outdoor concert of the summer in late July. PWCB members sometimes sit in with us to beef up our instrumentation, which is even more fun!
